Wildlife, including deer and occasionally black bears, wander through our community. Please keep the utmost distance for your safety. Drive slow and keep your eyes out, on the roads as deer may suddenly dart in front of cars.

Please NOTE when grilling or cooking outdoors, you must tend to the fire at all times and fully extinguish fire when you are finished! Leave no food unattended because it can attract and harm wildlife, and pose a danger to you.

Area Attractions

The home is only 20 minutes’ drive to the Skyline Drive and Appalachian Trail — the surrounding area is full of Civil War sites, fruit stands, and antique shops. Summer, Spring, and Fall are the seasons for various festivals in the nearby historic Town of Front Royal. The tasting rooms of Linden Vineyards and Fox Meadow Vineyards are less than 5 miles from the home and there many other wineries nearby, specializing in Chardonnay. Horseback riding, equestrian events, zip lining and golf are nearby.

Location

Linden is an easy drive from Washington DC or Dulles Airport on Route 66 (about 65 miles, a little more than 1 hour). The quaint and historic town of Front Royal is a 10 minute drive from the cabin.

Safety First!

In winter, a 4-wheel drive vehicle and even chains are suggested in case of snow and  ice on the mountain roads. The first hour of precipitation is often the most treacherous. Be aware of weather reports at all times and plan your comings and goings so as to avoid road hazards.

Roads are cleared professionally, so please wait until the plow has come through before traversing the mountain roads. Call Larry our property manager if in doubt about whether or not the roads are safe.

Bear Lodge Cabin is in a forested area. Extra caution must be taken with cigarette butts and outdoor grill. Use the propane grill starter and do not use lighter fluid. Grill must be supervised at all times and fire snuffed out completely when you are finished. Please close top and bottom vents to completely snuff the fire. A locking metal ashcan is provided (at the grill area) for disposal of cold ashes only. Please do not put ashes in the trash cans on the deck. Our housekeeper will dispose of them for you.

Cabin is in a Fire Safe Community. Fire prevention in our mountain forest takes constant vigilance by all of us. No smoking indoors and use extra care outdoors. We have provided secure ash trays outdoors, for your convenience. Please, no butts on the ground or flicking ashes over the rail. Feel free to use the glass jars (in the kitchen) for that purpose! Absolutely no open fires or fireworks are permitted by community by-laws, and to prevent devastating forest fires. Violators will be held criminally liable! Any guest seen breaking these rules will be immediately reported by neighbors to Sheriff.

For your safety and the safety of others, Absolutely NO feeding or approaching wildlife, please.

Leave all food trash in the house until departure day. Leave no food unattended in the picnic area.

Absolutely NO Parking on the road. All vehicles must be in our 4-car pad or they will be towed.

Response to Cabin

  1. Juli Marsh

I would be very interested in renting your cabin on High Knob the weekend of October 11, 2014. We live on HK ourselves and are getting married on the 11th. Our home is very small, and I (as the bride) am thinking of staying in your cabin with my daughter, mom, and sisters. Or perhaps just family…but we definitely need more space! So, my first question is, will be cabin be available for a few nights over that weekend? I really look forward to hearing from you. You have a beautiful property!
    Thanks so much,
    Juli Marsh
